25.07.2022 Featured Gunmen Attack Ondo Again, Kill Police Officer

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed an attack by gunmen on Okuta Elerinla Police Station in Akure, the capital of the state.

During the attack on Monday, a bullet hit Temenu Boluwaji, a policeman, and he died, according to Odunlami Funmilayo, the Ondo police spokesperson.

“There was an attack on one of our stations, Okuta Elerin division around 1 am today. The assailants were repelled by our policemen on duty. The CP has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to investigate and ensure the hoodlums are arrested,” a statement from the Ondo State police read.

Funmilayo told journalists that Boluwaji died in a crossfire officers on duty made efforts to prevent the attackers from entering the station.

“During the crossfire, one of our gallant station guards Temenu Boluwaji was hit by a bullet. He later died on his way to the hospital,” The Cable quoted him to have said.

“The commissioner of police, CP Oyeyemi Adesoye Oyediran, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and ensure the perpetrators are arrested.”

In June, at least 50 congregants were killed after suspected terrorists attacked St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, an ancient town in the state.

The heavily armed attackers invaded the church and shot continuously into the crowd of worshippers present during an early morning service.
