Gbolahan Ajibola, a teenager, was on Saturday kidnapped by gunmen, Ifemosu Adewale, a Twitter user, has revealed.

In a tweet appealing to Nigerians with any information on the kidnap of Gbolahan, Ifemosu said the kidnap happened at about 9:30pm.

Corroborating Ifemosu’s claim, Odu Damilola, who has relationship Gbolahan’s mother, said the incident occurred when Gbolahan came down to open the gate for the vehicle his mother and grandma were riding in. Although not in Abeokuta, Damilola said he got details of the kidnap from Gbolahan’s sister, Lolade.

“The information I got from Gbolahan’s sister, she said the people who kidnapped her brother wore camouflages uniform with guns,” he said.

“Some of them were speaking Hausa because when they kidnapped him, he was like ‘grandma, speak Hausa’. There was this particular person that was with them. He was the one who called the family the following morning demanding a ransom of N50million. He spoke yoruba.”

When asked if any efforts has been made to contact security officials, Damilola said they had “gone to make complaints at a police station in Abeokuta”.

Also speaking with FIJ, Gbolahan’s sister, Lolade Ajibola, said they: “We’re trying to negotiate with the kidnappers, that’s all that can be disclosed for now.”

Abimbola Oyeyemi, Ogun state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident.

“It’s true. We’re on it,” he said. “Our men have been there since that day. We’re still on the trail of the kidnappers.”
