26.09.2021 news Hoodlums Attack Lagos Policemen at Checkpoint, Steal Rifle

Hoodlums have attacked police officers attached to Onipanu Division, Lagos State Police Command, and carted away a fully-loaded AK-47 rifle.

At about 3 am on Sunday, the hoodlums besieged the security team led by Nasiru Azeez, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, while the officers were at a checkpoint along Obasanjo-Itele road in Lagos.

FIJ learnt that Atari Friday, one of the officers, sustained an injury to the head during the attack.

While security has been beefed up in the area, Adekunle Ajisebutu, Lagos police spokesperson, said he had no knowledge of the attack. 

“Onipanu? I have not been briefed. I don’t know about it,” he told FIJ.

On Thursday, Kazeem Abonde, a senior officer was also killed when some motorcyclists at Ajao Estate clashed with police officers drafted to the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences (Environmental Unit).
