In February, FIJ reported how Isaac Kunle Olagunju took N250,000 from a couple without allocating them a house. He later gave them fraudulent collateral. Now, Olagunju has disappeared with another N560,000 paid to him by some clients introduced to him by Mayowa Quadri, another house agent.

Quadri is an agent and a student of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) who helps fresh students with their school admission processes.

“I have a WhatsApp group where I add new students who are just applying to the school. I walk them through the processes, help them obtain forms, and when they are eventually admitted, I get apartments for them,” Quadri explained.

It was on this WhatsApp group Quadri met Olagunju.

When Olagunju began to advertise houses on the group, it offended Quadri.

“A lady told me this guy [Olagunju] messaged her unsolicited, but I didn’t say anything. When the second and third person reached out to report him, I posted their chats in the group and labelled it a scam, and that nobody should message him. He saw it and called me to say that he was no scam and that he was an agent. He proved it to me by sharing the videos of the houses he was advertising. He gave me their prices and they were reasonable. He then said I could bring students who needed houses to him,” Quadri said.

At that time, Quadri had some customers who needed to get a house so he agreed to introduce them to Olagunju.

When they finally met on February 7 in the Olorunsogo area of Abeokuta, Olagunju asked them to wait for the person with the key to the house. During this period, Olagunju showed Quadri and the three female customers some other available apartments.

After the ladies made their choice, Olagunju asked Quadri and the ladies to follow him to Mush Hotel, a hotel located close to the apartments. He claimed to be a manager at the hotel, and that it was where his receipts were.

At the hotel, a male customer who needed an apartment joined them. Olagunju then handed Quadri the spare key to the apartment leaving Olagunju and the first customers alone to complete the transaction.

Quadri explained that the female customers paid N310,000 upfront from the agreed N380,000, while the second customer paid a down payment of N200,000 from the agreed N270,000, while he promised to balance up the remaining N70,000 two days later.

On the second day, the male client paid an extra N50,000 of the remaining N70,000. All of this happened without Quadri’s knowledge.

That same day, the male client called Quadri that Olagunju did not give him the house and was also not taking his calls despite the last payment he made. He told FIJ that he tried his best to calm the customer to wait till the agreed date.

On the next day, when Quadri called Olagunju as he did for the couple FIJ earlier reported about, he began to narrate how some people arrested and beat him up.

“That was when we started finding out that that the hotel he said he was the manager, those people said he just came to lodge there. And the reason why they were friendly with him was because he was friendly with them,” Quadri said.

“The house he showed us, he didn’t tell the owners that he was an agent, he told them that he was a student and that his friends were coming to check the house, and that was why that person gave him the key. Since then, we have been calling him, but his number is not going.

“The police are now after me. The number he used to receive the money is a lady’s number. My studentship is also at stake. The ladies and the guy are on my neck. That was the reason why I had to look for him on Google and I saw his picture on your story. That is why I am reaching out to you.”
