Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), is set to arraign no fewer than 76 #EndBadGovernance protest participants at the Federal High Court (FHC) in Abuja on November 1. At least 28 of them are minors.
Court documents marked FHC/ABJ/CS/503/2024, which FIJ saw on Friday, confirmed the court received the charge on September 9.
Deji Adeyanju, the defendants’ lawyer, took to X on Friday to share some of the arraigned suspects’ names.
He said in a post, “After detaining #EndBadGovernance protesters for almost 80 days, the clueless Tinubu government is set to arraign more protesters — 76 of them who are largely minors, as can be seen on the charge herein annexed — on November 1 in Abuja. We are ready to defend all of them.”

Adeyanju, in a conversation with FIJ after the post, said Justice Emeka Nwite granted the police a remand warrant to keep the protesters in detention until the arraignment date.
The lawyer claimed this move contradicted the law.
“Only magistrates should be granting remand warrants,” Adeyanju told FIJ. “A remand warrant should not last longer than 14 days in the first instance, and it can be granted for a further 14 days if the first one expires.”
Adeyanju said the protesters had been in court for longer than 28 days, and he would be demanding protection of their rights when the case comes up in Court 10.
FIJ earlier reported how the FHC granted a remand warrant to the police to detain 75 protesters on August 21.
In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1223/2024, the police accused them of attempting to overthrow the government through their participation during the #EndBadGovernance protest.
