Ibrahim Ibrahim, an Ilorin-based photographer, lost a photography job he had travelled to Kebbi State for because Aero Contractors misplaced his photography equipment worth $128 in September.

The Ilorin-based photographer boarded a flight from Abuja to Sokoto State on September 2. He had planned to board a bus to Kebbi from Sokoto for a wedding photography shoot he had been hired for.

Ibrahim told FIJ he had packed a Jinbei device and a tripod stand in a bag. The bag was checked in at the check-in area and he was given a tag.

At this point, he never thought anything could go wrong, but all the things Ibrahim never thought could go wrong did.

On arriving at Sokoto, the bag containing his equipment was nowhere to be found in the bag retrieval area.

“When we landed in Sokoto, the bag containing my equipment was nowhere to be found. I lodged complaints with the airline and they assured me they would send it on the evening flight that day,” Ibrahim told FIJ on Tuesday.

He told FIJ that he could not wait till evening because he had to travel to Kebbi from Sokoto by road and was wary of becoming a victim of banditry attacks on the road if he left late that day.

Ibrahim’s black bag contained the tripod stand and the Jinbei device.

He expressed his concerns and told the airline staff member who attended to him that he would pick it up on September 7 before returning to Abuja or sending someone to pick it up on his behalf. However, there was no word from the airline until three days later.

“It was only until three days later that I got a message from them informing me that my bag had arrived. I returned to the airport on the morning of September 7 to board a flight to Abuja,” Ibrahim said.

He had expected to get his bag which contained his equipment but, to his greatest surprise, the airline staff member only brought out his tripod stand.

His Jinbei equipment worth $128 was nowhere to be found.

Ibrahim expressed his displeasure and told them he had packed the tripod stand and the Jinbei equipment in a bag, but the staff member who addressed him said the luggage tag he was given only covered the tripod stand.

He felt bewildered.

“I told them this was not my fault and that their staff member who checked him in typed what was written on the tag. I could not ask them what it covered because I had a flight to catch,” Ibrahim said.

“I could not wait to continue arguing with them at the Sokoto airport because I needed to head to Abuja. When I got to Abuja, I went to their airport stand and was told to go to the check-in area. I went there but there was no one there.”

He was told to wait for the staff members designated to the check-in area to return, but time was a luxury he could not afford. He needed to return to Ilorin the following day.

“I had to return to Ilorin the following day and had other things to sort. If I waited, I would have missed my flight to Ilorin the following day and spent more money on hotel accommodation, and I might not have gotten my equipment,” Ibrahim lamented.

“The only equipment I have is my tripod stand. They have not contacted me since then. The work I travelled for was given to someone else because I did not have my equipment.”

FIJ emailed Aero Contractors on Tuesday, but they did not respond.

In March, FIJ reported that Aero Contractors failed to refund Chukwuneku Opiti, a Lagos State resident, after receiving N81,760 twice for one flight ticket.
