Mary Chinda, a journalist with Arise News, has shared her near-death experience at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally that took place in Borno State on Wednesday.
Chinda, alongside other journalists, was in the convoy of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP, which came under attack by suspected thugs in Maiduguri.

Recounting her experience, she said:
“While on the way to the campaign ground, the PDP presidential candidate’s convoy was attacked as we made to leave the palace of the Shehu of Borno.
“In a bid to escape the aggressive and rowdy crowd, I hurried into a Marcopolo luxury bus that carried the national women leader and other party officials.
“As we moved, stones and what sounded like dane guns were pelted at our bus. I lost balance and tripped over as the driver swerved the car to get us to safety.
“I went blank and lost consciousness for a split second, until I was lifted by Mr. Osaro and Mr. Mohammed of the presidential campaign council who provided first aid from the medical team.”
While the exact number of casualties is yet to be ascertained, Mohammed Jajari, gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Borno State, told Channels TV in an interview that over 100 people sustained injuries from the attack.
