Timothy Ogunade, a Nigerian broadcast journalist resident in the UK, has recounted how Ethiopian Airlines refused to account for his luggage which went missing during his flight to Ethiopia.
Ogunade told FIJ he had traveled with the Ethiopian Airlines on January 17 to Addis Ababa for a trip that was meant to end in the United Kingdom.
“I boarded their aircraft from Lagos to Heathrow, London, on January 17 and landed the next day,” Ogunade told FIJ.
“At the point of picking our luggage, I discovered that my 23kg green box was missing. I found other boxes but this particular one was nowhere in sight.”
Ogunade said he immediately alerted an airport official who took his details and promised to have it delivered the following day.
“I immediately reported the incident to an airport official who was at the airport that day. He took my details and promised to have the bag delivered the following day, January 18,” he said.
“I believed him and hoped the bag would be sent because it contained my personal effects, gifts, and memorable items I got from my last workplace.”
The broadcast journalist said after he submitted his details, no one from Ethiopian Airlines reached out to him.
“Ever since I submitted my details, nobody from Ethiopian Airlines has contacted me. I called the numbers available on their website but it wasn’t going through. I also sent an email but nobody has attended to it, which makes it more frustrating,” he said.
“I even attached my proof of passport, ticket, and everything that can be used to trace the bag, but no one has said anything and it seems my luggage is just lying in the air.

“If it has been stolen, they should inform me so I can press for damages or do something that would give me closure.”
When FIJ sent a message to Ethiopian Airlines on Twitter, inquiring about Ogunade’s missing bag, the airline said two of her bags had specific locations while they couldn’t ascertain the status of the last bag.
“These are the status of the bags: one already has a plan going to London, one is currently located in Addis Ababa and the last one does not show anything on our system,” the airline wrote.
