Emmanuel Amadi, a Lagos-based businessman, has accused Jumia Nigeria, an e-commerce company, of refusing to refund him after a failed transaction of N181,390 on April 1.

Amadi told FIJ that he had wanted to purchase a laptop on Jumia Nigeria, and that though the transaction was not successful, N181,390 left his account.

“I wanted to buy a laptop on April 1, so I decided to purchase it online at Jumia Nigeria using my Zenith Bank card. According to them, the transaction did not go through, but the money left my account. The laptop’s price was N181,390 and that was how they took my hard-earned money,” he said.

Amadi told FIJ that all his efforts to regain the money had not yielded any positive result.

“I have laid a dispute claim against Jumia Nigeria and Zenith Bank and I won’t stop until I get my money back. Zenith Bank told me the payment went through. A Jumia customer care agent did confirm they received the money, then at some point, they said they had issues with their financial team. Now they are denying it altogether.”

The businessman said he reached out to Jumia Nigeria many times but the responses were vague. He said a Jumia customer care representative once admitted that they received the money and promised it would be refunded but the customer care later said they received no such money.

Email from Jumia Support

FIJ made several calls to Jumia Nigeria and Zenith Bank but they were not answered. Emails sent to them had also not been responded to at press time.
