Over 60 people kidnapped by bandits from different locations within Kaduna State have just regained their freedom.

Samuel Aruwan, the commissioner of security and internal affairs in the state confirmed this development while speaking with Arise TV on Saturday.

According to him, “The military authorities briefed the Kaduna State Government that they found over 60 citizens in the bush and they wanted the Kaduna State Government to facilitate their release to their relatives. That is what we are here to do today”.

Sixty-six worshippers of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Kakau Daji were abducted during a church service on Sunday, 31st October, 2021, but the abductors later shot five of them, killing three and injuring two.

Aruwan, however, noted that the latest survivors of abductions were not just worshippers of the church but also from different places, including Chikun.

When asked whether ransoms were paid by the government, he said, “I am not privy to such information, but our position remains clear: that we do not believe in the efficacy of negotiating with bandits”.

He said that the state was working collectively with the Operation Thunder Strike of the Nigerian Army and other security arms to stem the tide of insecurity in the state, especially on the Kaduna -Abuja expressway.
