The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Adejuwon Soyinka, a Nigerian journalist with The Conversation Africa.
According to PREMIUM TIMES, Soyinka was apprehended and detained by officials of the state security service after he arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMI), Lagos at about 5:40 am on Sunday.
Soyinka had arrived Lagos from the United Kingdom on a Virgin Atlantic flight.
FIJ understands that the DSS has yet to give a reason for Soyinka’s arrest.
With his arrest on Sunday, Soyinka joins the list of journalists who are being hounded by the Nigerian government for different reasons.
On Friday, the news broke that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) had detained Isaac Bristol, a leak journalist, popularly known as @PIDOMNIGERIA.
The NPF had arrested him based on accusations of a breach of the Official Secrets Act (OSA) by publishing leaks that indict the government and terrorism financing.
Following his arrest, the police subjected him to inhumane treatment and are demanding two level 16 civil servants who owned landed property worth at least N500 million in Abuja for his release.
However, an analysis by FIJ has revealed that it would take more than 150 years for any level 16 civil servant to be able to afford the bail fee required by the police.
