On Tuesday, the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Agbeleoba Samuel Oyeyemi, a younger brother to Adebayo Folasade, a married woman who was sexually harassed by Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Vice Chancellor Abayomi Sunday Fasina.
FIJ learnt that DSS operatives arrested Oyeyemi at his residence in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, some minutes after 9 pm. The DSS came in three vehicles: a black Toyota Hilux, an Innoson truck with number plate AE960YEE and a Toyota Fortuner.
Oyeyemi is the general manager of Our People’s 104.1 FM, a radio station in Ado-Ekiti. He is also an English Language lecturer at Ekiti State University (EKSU), where Fasina worked before leaving for FUOYE.

A family friend who asked not to be named told FIJ the DSS operatives did not state the exact reason for arresting Oyeyemi. The family friend said it might not be unconnected to the sexual harassment case involving Oyeyemi’s sister and Fasina.
“We initially believed it was the police who arrested him. On further findings, we realised it was the DSS,” the source said.
“The reasons for his arrest are not known yet. We are waiting to hear from them (the DSS). But it is most likely connected to the media reports exposing Fasina’s immoral misconduct towards Folasade.
“Being a media practitioner and a lecturer at Fasina’s former workplace, they must have wrongly assumed he was the brainchild of the media reports exposing Fasina’s misconduct.
“But the funny thing is, Oyeyemi is not even a troublesome person and always avoids any dangerous landmines. He is a member of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry. So, Fasina and the DSS are making a mistake to assume he is behind those media reports.”
The source also stated that Oyeyemi’s arrest could be a tactic to intimidate people around Adebayo while trying to get to the sources who share information with FIJ.
“Fasina never knew Oyeyemi at EKSU, but he has heard of him. We are making efforts to get him out. We have notified the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU),” said the family friend.
“I take his arrest to be a scare tactic from the security agency and those hell-bent on covering up Fasina’s misconduct and intimidating people they suspect are speaking with the media.
“I also suspect this arrest to be purely an action taken by the local command of the DSS in Ekiti because the new director general of the agency doesn’t tolerate nonsense.”
FIJ had earlier reported that the governing council of FUOYE set up a panel to probe Fasina over his misconduct and report its findings in three weeks. This panel’s investigation entered its third week on Monday.
In that report, FIJ pointed out how the mandate of the panel focused more on finding who leaked the audio recordings and documents revealing Fasina’s immoral advances and harassment after the woman rejected those advances.
FIJ could not reach the DSS for comments because it has no publicly accessible spokesperson. The DSS recently decided against the appointment of a new spokesperson.
