The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Abba Yusuf, the gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), winner of the Kano governorship election held on Saturday.
Yusuf defeated Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a keenly contested election, the NNPP candidate polled 1,019,602 votes, while Gawuna got 890,705 of the votes cast.
Ahmad Dokko Ibrahim, the returning officer for Kano State, made the declaration on Monday morning after announcing results for all 44 local government Areas in the state.
Prior to the election, Yusuf contested in the 2019 gubernatorial polls, losing to Umar Ganduje with less than 9,000 votes after a supplementary election was conducted.
