The family of President Muhammadu Buhari came under heavy criticism from Nigerians after Aisha, his wife and first lady, celebrated Zahra, her daughter-in-law’s graduation from a UK university on Tuesday.
Zahra’s graduation came as the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to, among other things, demand for the payment of earned academic allowances entered its seventh month.
In their reactions, several Nigerians described the first lady as insensitive. They also said it was a way of showing that the political class was not in any way genuinely concerned about the plights of common Nigerians.

“Such level of insensitivity!! People’s children are on strike for months now and you could post this!!??? Shame on you all!! Evil set of humans!,” Ivuoma Idika, a Facebook user, commented under the first lady’s post.
Jimoh Adekunle, another Facebook user, said, “ASUU strike is in its seventh month, but they feel so unconcerned because those whose destinies are stalled are not their own children. What a country!”
“Posterity won’t forget your husband. Shame on you!,” Makanjuola Joshua, another Facebook user, said.
Patience Nnediso Eze, yet another user, said,” Congratulations to her, but, you should not have shared this on social media. It is insensitive to the plight of many Nigerians who are at home and whose children are currently not in school because of ASUU Strike.”

“Insensitivity personified, wickedness engraved boldly,” Chiemeka Akwrandu commented.
“This is insensitive because there are millions of other children at home because of your husband’s incompetence. Let’s call a spade a spade,” said Dimbo Atiya.
Zahra was said to have graduated with first class honours in architectural science.
