On Friday, the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, confirmed Anthony Agbegbedia, a lecturer accused of sexually harassing students, failed a student who should have passed after targeting her.
Ramota Olahanloye, the affected student, can finally graduate after her examination script was marked again and verified by FUOYE’s management.
Olahanloye had complained that Agbegbedia deliberately undermarked her script after declining his sex-for-grade demand, forcing her to fail the course at the point of graduation.
Wole Balogun, a special adviser on media to Vice Chancellor Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, said in a public statement that Olahanloye scored better after her scripts were remarked, informing the management’s decision to punish the offending lecturer.

“A female student of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Miss Ramota Olahanloye, who alleged that a lecturer of the university, Dr Anthony Agbegbedia, had made sexual advances to her to which she declined leading to his allegedly failing her in two courses of her final year, has received justice,” Balogun stated.
“The young lady’s script was remarked and she performed fairly better than what she had earlier gotten from Agbegbedia. The university management has therefore approved that her final year results be processed and executive approval was given for her to graduate having gotten the results that qualified her to do so.”
Olahanloye has now been cleared to graduate from the school.
The management was however silent on what form of punishment had been meted on Agbegbedia.
“She has since commenced her final clearance from relevant units of the University,” Balogun said.
Olahanloye and Rasaki, her father, felt vindicated and appreciated the management for ensuring justice was served.
“l can confirm to the world that the Federal University Oye-Ekiti has served Justice to my daughter over this case. I was shown my daughter’s upgraded result after the remarking of her scripts in the two courses in question,” Rasaki said.
“This confirms to me that my daughter is graduating from the university. The university made good on their promise to ensure that her scripts were remarked and when that was done, they told me that she passed and would be graduating. So I am happy about this. I am okay with the development.
“I therefore appreciate every member of the university committee that handled the case. They have done well. And particularly, I appreciate the vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, for ensuring that my daughter gets justice.
“I also want to advise all newsmen writing about this matter in the media to stop henceforth, any publication about the matter involving my daughter in the university because I didn’t solicit any media report on the case initially.”

Olahanloye said she was happy about the outcome of the case.
“I am happy that I have gotten justice on the matter and I really appreciate my Vice Chancellor who set up the committee that looked into the case and also the members of the committee for a job well done,” she said.
“I was shown my student’s entire results including the graduation list which has my name on it. I have been directed to commence my clearance as a graduating student of the university. So, I am happy.”
FIJ had earlier reported that the school issued a warning to the lecturer for his unethical behaviour.
