Ara Omobolanle, a Facebook user, has described how 43-year-old Ruth Odin was murdered in her home at 7, Oluwakemi Street, Ketu, Alapere, Lagos.

Omobolanle said Odion was last seen at AIICO Insurance, her workplace, on Thursday, September 9.

“Throughout Friday and the weekend, her phones were unable to connect. Surprised, one of her co-workers decided to visit her on September 15 at home in Ketu, Alapere, Lagos State,” Omobolanle said.

“Upon arrival, she saw her apartment all messy and disorderly like a battle had taken place, but the door to her bedroom was shut. Every effort to locate her throughout the home and neighbourhood was fruitless since there was no sign of her anywhere in the compound.

After the colleague got tired of searching for Odion, she peered through her window into her bedroom and saw a human figure on the floor.

Omobolanle said that when the colleague saw a corpse in the room, she pushed the door open and discovered Odion’s decaying, bloated body on the floor of her bedroom. Omobolanle believes that the posture of Odion’s corpse indicates that she was raped and subsequently killed.

The crime was first reported to Ketu Alapere Police Station, but owing to the nature of the inquiry, it was moved to Panti at Alagomeji Police Station in Lagos State, Nigeria.

“So far, the Nigerian Police haven’t made any credible lead in their investigation. Based on the circumstances that surround the death of this woman, it seems they are slow-paced,” Omobolanle said.

“We are, therefore, pleading with the Nigerian Police Force in Lagos State, Nigeria, as well as other security agencies and parastatals, to kindly bring justice to the dead and punish any person of interest or criminal involved in this heinous crime.”

In a conversation with a friend of the deceased who asked not to be named, Odion was recently promoted at her workplace for dedication, only to be murdered days later.

He said the deceased’s body was in a very bad state when found by her colleague.

“The door of her bathroom was covered with heavy bloodstains. Her skull was shattered. They must have slammed her head against the wall with great force,” he said.

“Some of her teeth slipped out of her stomach as they carried her out of the home. She died in agony. I want justice for this lady. We want justice for Odion; she was a good lady, very hard working.”

Odion, who was buried on Thursday, October 7, left behind a twin brother and an elderly mother.

FIJ placed several calls to CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, Lagos State Police spokesperson, but they were not answered. A text message sent was also not responded to.
