An unidentified woman has recounted how B.O. Ogbunefe, the Provost Marshall at the Ikeja Passport Office in Alausa, Lagos, assaulted her and her daughter.
In a video obtained by FIJ, the woman said she and her daughter applied to the Ikeja Passport Office on Thursday for the re-issuance of their international passports, but were sent out of the passport office around 6 pm, after waiting for a while.
She said that while the officer assisting them pleaded that they be allowed back into the passport office, another immigration officer verbally assaulted the woman’s daughter.
“B.O. Ogbunefe, a man at the gate, said what my daughter was wearing was not acceptable for her to come in. Mind you, she was wearing a jumpsuit. He was sexually harassing my daughter. He said she didn’t wear a bra. He said, ‘Look at her breast; she is dressed like ashewo,’” she said.

The woman, who was dissatisfied with the conduct of Provost Marshall, said she asked the officer to stop harassing her daughter. But the officer got angry.
“I asked him if he got the backing for his actions from the constitution, and then he twisted my arm, bruised me all over, and almost twisted my arm to the back, all because I went there for passport renewal,” she said.
“He almost beat us up. Look at my hand and look at what my daughter is wearing. Help us, my fellow Nigerians.”
When FIJ contacted Sunday James, spokesperson of the Nigerian Immigration Service, his line was not reachable. At press time, he had not responded to a text sent to him.
