A Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja, Lagos State, has convicted and sentenced Kolawole Muyiwa, a part-time lecturer at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, to life imprisonment for raping an unnamed female student.
Justice Rahman Oshodi, the presiding judge, handed Muyiwa the sentence on Thursday.
While announcing the judgment, Oshodi held that the prosecution was able to prove the ingredients of defilement against Muyiwa beyond reasonable doubt.

Court records showed that Muyiwa committed the offence at the school premises on October 11, 2021. The lecturer pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him when he was first arraigned on October 6, 2023.
While testifying before the court, the affected student said she had arrived at the school early for a departmental meeting scheduled for 10 am on the day of the incident.
While waiting outside her classroom for other members to come, the lecturer approached and requested her to get him food.
She then followed Muyiwa to his office so she could fetch the flask for the food purchase.
When they got to the lecturer’s office, he said he no longer wanted any food but needed her to stay and help him evaluate some examination scripts.
With this, Muyiwa was said to have left the office momentarily before returning to lock a passage gate and the office door.
“He suddenly pushed me down the plastic chair I was sitting on. He overpowered me and forcefully removed my trousers. I was menstruating at the time, but he removed my sanitary pad and had forceful sexual intercourse with me,” said the victim.
The survivor added that after Muyiwa was done, he then said, “What you refused to give me willingly, I have taken it by force.”
After the incident, the survivor subsequently reached out to a lawyer and a police officer for justice.
Muyiwa, who is a married man and a father of three, had denied raping the survivor. In his testimony, the lecturer claimed he only asked the student if she could help record scores and she agreed.
Muyiwa added that he went ahead to ask the survivor for a relationship while she was helping him with the scripts inside the office and she accepted.
Several documents were, however, tendered and admitted in evidence including the student’s medical reports during the hearing.
Muyiwa, was found guilty of rape contrary to Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
Apart from the life sentence he bagged, Muyiwa’s name has been added to the Lagos State Sex Offender Register.
