Ifeanyi Agenti, proprietor and principal of Calculus Group of Schools, Mile 12, Lagos, and Chidinma, his wife, on Friday, assaulted Favour Nwanma, a teacher in the school, for demanding her overdue salary.

The couple slapped and tore Nwanma’s dress after dragging her out of the school premises. They also accused her of defiling a student, an allegation she described as a smear campaign against her.

Recalling the incident, Nwanma said she and her friend had gone to the school on a Friday to demand the N5,000 balance of their N20,000 salaries, but Ifeanyi said he could not pay them as earlier agreed and asked that they wait till the following week.

Favour objected, and asked that he keep to the original agreement, but the proprietor said if she could not wait till the following week, she should send her mother.

“I told him to not mention my mother as he did not enter into any agreement with my mother, and she was older than him,” Nwanma told FIJ. “That was how he slapped me and tore my bra, my clothes and dragged me outside the building. He kept on punching and slapping me.

“Then people came; his wife came. I even thought she wanted to settle the matter because she called me into the building. But the next thing was she slapped me.

“Students and other teachers were watching the whole thing. They could not do anything.”

When FIJ contacted Ifeanyi, he declined to comment. Chidinma told FIJ that “there was a reason for the slap,” but refused to speak further on the incident.
