Olasunkanmi, a prospective corps member in Lagos State, has accused Lendsafe, an online loan company, of defaming him and setting him up for embarrassment by reporting him as a defaulter despite paying the lender in full.
He told FIJ that he had since paid the company N118,100 on July 3 after he missed the initial deadline for payment, but the company would not stop the campaign of calumny against his person.
Olasunkanmi said that he took a loan of N75,000 on June 17 (to repay N99,000 on June 30) but missed the deadline because there was a delay with his salary.

He said that a day after the deadline, Lendsafe barraged him with calls about repayment. According to Olasunkanmi, while he was looking for a means to pay what he owed, Lendsafe started calling his contacts and reporting him as a defaulter.
Olasunkanmi, who said that this was the first time he defaulted, told FIJ that once he received his salary, he paid Lendsafe the N118,100 the loan had accrued to, but the lender claimed not to have received his payment.
“One lawyer even texted me. Another sent a WhatsApp message. I told everyone that I would pay. Immediately after I received my salary, I paid them. In fact, I even told all the people who contacted me on behalf of Lendsafe that I had paid,” Olasunkanmi told FIJ.
Olasunkanmi said he thought the issue had been resolved after paying N118,100, which was higher than the agreed repayment. But to his surprise, the loan portal continued to show that he defaulted, with interest charges still accumulating.
“They didn’t rectify the situation. Even after I paid, there was no response the next day, and nothing changed. The same account that I normally use to send their money still shows I owe them, and I’ve confirmed that the funds went through,” he said.
“I don’t understand why they’re not seeing it. I’ve told them repeatedly that I paid, but they are still calling my contacts, slandering me and causing tension with my business partners and associates. They are spreading the idea that I owe money when, in fact, I have already paid it.”

When FIJ called Lendsafe on Sunday, a representative acknowledged that Olasunkanmi had made the payment and promised the issue would be resolved on Monday.
“The problem is with Wema Bank,” Lendsafe’s representative said. “Many people who sent money to that account are having the same issue. He is not the only one. I’ve already forwarded his receipt. Tomorrow, he will be cleared.”
When asked if she was aware that Lendsafe staff were sending defamatory messages to Olasunkanmi’s contacts, the representative denied any knowledge of this.

Those online lending companies are so unprofessional
All these online loans companies are behaving shamefully in our society some few numbers of people have committed suicide because of the embarrassment caused by them it has happened to one of my former corper who has left my office more than eight years ago they started calling me embarrassing me to come and pay for what she borrowed when I didn’t hear from the corper. By the time I located her she was threatening suicide. As a clinical psychologist the online loaners should try another means of collecting their money instead of defaming people it is barbaric. And they should try and be assessing their clients online before giving out loan to them not all of them are normal and mentally competent to collect loan clinical psychologist could help to determine this to avoid unnecessary stress in getting their money back.
