Armed men, suspected to be Fulani terrorists, killed at least 10 residents of Ward Two in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State between January 27 and Friday.
Barry, a source in the local government who asked for some anonymity, told FIJ that the terrorists started their killing spree with the wife of a local chief on January 27.
According to Barry, the woman was returning from where she went to fetch firewood when the bandits encountered her and killed her in Lighitlubang Community.

“The following day, people were killed at Jwakkom Community. On January 31, the terrorists went to Chisu, a community near Lighitlubang, and killed an entire family: husband, wife and three children,” Barry told FIJ.
Barry said some aggrieved individuals killed Fulani people in Mangu in a retaliatory move. He further stated that the locals in Mangu were tired of the army’s presence in their community.

“The army was present on all three days we recorded fatalities. They are always deployed when issues arise. However, this has led locals to become suspicious of the army, believing it may protect the interests of the Fulani, the mineral resources, or both.”
FIJ called Alfred Alabo, the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), but he did not answer his calls. He did not respond to the follow-up text about whether he was aware of the situation in Mangu at press time.
