Kingsley Aondona, a 300-level student of medicine at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) who was attacked on his way to church by a mob on August 15, is asking for help in raising funds for his surgery.

During the attack, Aondona lost five of his teeth after stones hit him in the mouth. He is currently crowdfunding for dental surgery.

“A mob of over 15 people threw stones, stabbed people, hit us and caused pandemonium close to UNIJOS gate. They stabbed me in my lower back but I’m thankful it didn’t affect any internal organ,” he told FIJ.

For every attack in Jos, there are people who suffer various degrees of injuries and there are dozens who die. One of such people is Stephen Fwangmun.

On August 15, Stephen’s family suffered the loss of another member. Stephen became the only male remaining in the family following the death of his brother. But he himself would later die in one of the series of attacks in Jos a month and three weeks later.

Jennifer, Stephen’s sister who was travelling with him, told FIJ that some Hausa-Muslim youths threw heavy stones at their bus until the driver lost control.

“They had already poured engine oil on our bus and were going to burn us all alive before my brother jumped out,” she said. “They ran after him and the rest of us escaped. They caught up with Stephen and butchered him.”
