A banker in Lagos could not believe her eyes on February 27 when she found that N800,000 had vanished from her Access Bank savings account.

Even more surprising was that some hours before her money disappeared, she paid an Uber driver using her app, and the money was intact, she said.

The banker, who asked not to be named, told FIJ she immediately checked her app history to find out what could have happened, only to realise a web transaction took place on her account without her authorisation.

“My money was transferred to one Akanni in Ibadan, a place I didn’t visit. What is shocking is that I have not used my ATM card since January 2022, yet N800,000 vanished from my account without the bank sending a one-time password,” she told FIJ.

Proof of the debit

She said she sent a message to Access Bank on Instagram to help her do something about the issue but got no response from the bank.

“I also sent them an email and visited a branch of the bank, but up till now, no one from the bank has told me anything. N800,000 is too much to lose,” she said.

FIJ sent a message to Abdul Imoyo, the spokesperson for Access Bank, but he had not responded at press time.
