Maryam Omotayo, a Lagos-based trader, has recounted how N81,800 left her account after an unsuccessful PoS transaction.

Omotayo said the amount left her account after she initiated a PoS transaction on January 28.

“On January 28, I went to use my United Bank for Africa (UBA) debit card on a Baxi PoS,” she told FIJ.

“The status of the transaction read ‘Declined’, but the sum left my account.”

Omotayo stated that her formal complaints to both institutions had been ignored for months.

“I have visited the Badagry branch of UBA to fill a dispense error form several times, but nothing has been done about it,” she said.

“I also visited Baxi’s head office, but they didn’t do anything about it.

“The bank and the mobile money centre are denying receiving my money. I am tired of complaining constantly. I just want my money back.”

When FIJ contacted both money firms to ascertain the status of Omotayo’s N81,800, UBA stated that the transaction was successful and that Omotayo should reach out to Baxi.

“Kindly be informed that the disputed transaction was successful to the merchant. Please liaise with the merchant for further assistance,” UBA wrote via Twitter.

Baxi Box also stated that Omotayo should contact her bank.

“Please be informed that we are not settled for this transaction. Kindly advise your customer to visit his/her bank regarding this transaction,” they said in an email.
