Patrick Oluyemi, a Lagos State resident, has narrated how N980,800 was stolen from his Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) account by an unknown person.

Oluyemi, in an interview with FIJ, said the sum was stolen from his account on April 26.

“On April 26, I was at a car repair shop working on a vehicle I just purchased when the incident happened,” Oluyemi told FIJ.

“While the mechanic worked on the car, I brought out my phone from my pocket so I could transfer money to someone.

“The period I brought out my phone then coincided with the moment I started receiving the strange debit alerts on my phone. I thought I was dreaming.

“I keep hearing these fraudulent bank stories and now I believe they are true. These stories are actually true.

“The fraudster stole N200,000 four times from my account. After this, he or she then stole N100,800 and N80,000 from the account as well. The unauthorised debits were all web purchase transactions.”

Oluyemi told FIJ that he immediately lodged a complaint with GTB on the matter but nothing was done to help him retrieve the stolen money.

“GTB, in response to my mail, then claimed my debit card must have been compromised because the fraudsters used my details to steal the sum,” Oluyemi said.

“I find the bank’s explanation very difficult to believe. I have never at any time compromised any of my account details since I have been banking with GTB. How the money got stolen remains a mystery.”

“I also noticed that the fraud was perpetrated with the narration ‘WEB MSPORT. I don’t even place bets.

“Since April 26, my money has not been recovered by GTB.

“I wrote the FCCPC and the Central Bank of Nigeria on the issue, but I am yet to hear from them as well.”

FIJ sent an email to GTB’s customer care and electronic fraud units on Tuesday, but it had not been responded to at press time.

Worse bank service is
GTB STOP USING THEM
THEY NEVER RESPONDED TO ANYONE MESSAGE
VERY USELESS CUSTOMER SERVICE

This GTB is becoming something else sometimes ago i don’t know how but I have been debating like 6 naira every minute almost 50 times everyday and the will write telcom fee for MTN I don’t know why ooh

The central bank of Nigeria, the Nigerian commercial banks, the Nigeria police anti-fraud division have allowed this kind of fraud to continue in Nigeria by failing to take immediate action to freeze the account where the perpetrators or fraudsters transferred the ill-gotten money until the complainant’s complaint is resolved. This is not supposed to take much time to do. Investigate the complainant’s account where the money was transferred from, investigate the perpetrator’s account, etc.

He should sue Gtbank for their negligence. Gtbank are so fool of themselves. Worst customer services, very rude set of people from A to Z. Identical behaviors. They should track those transactions and get back the funds. I hate specifically gtb for their pride and disregards to their customers just because they think they have grown beyond collapsing…

Banks and fraud are 5&6. Most of these crimes are committed from within. The banks can trace who stole the money but they will not because they are within. Your option is to use them to court.

Same thing happened to me in June 2020 during covid19 after sending countless mail to Gtbank through my app to their fraudulent complaint link on the app which they didn’t respond, when the covid was lifted I went to my branch to complain which msg was sent to the bank headquarters, they ask me to bank the following week which i did, they told me my acct money was withdrawn to purchase online goods nd they can’t trace it,I never stop going to the bank if i could get goodnews for good 3month,my opinion Gtbank is a fraudulent bank while I was in the bank there were other too their with same issues as mine nd we were all told same thing during covid19 o

I also lost some of 93k from monie point.
I happened that I reported a failed transaction and in the process of rectifying it. They seized opportunity to defraud me.
I’m sure it’s their agent. Full details will be provided.

A lot of frauds are being perpetrated in GTB and their attitude to complaints suggests the staff are involved

All the Nigerian Banks are fraudsters as all they care for is just to milk the cow but not to protect.
They can never miss out on the numerous frivolous charges to the customer nor would they fail to fish out any debtor.
Where is the financial insurance cover they all subscribe to.
Should there be an investigation, you would find them culpable.

I lost my 160k to gtb too they it was showing web purchase as well I think this becoming alarming gtb need to tell us how because we don’t understand again

This is a terrifying incident, the authorities must call GTB to answer certain questions. They must demonstrate that they have no hands in this scandal

I think this is now a norm with GTB bank. That bank should just be banned. That was how I lost 50k that’s not even my money earlier this year through my GTB account, same web purchase, and same response/story from the bank when I launched a complaint, that my ATM card has been compromised.
There is really more to this their story!

I experienced the same thing last month on my Gtbank account. I never bought or transferred any money, on that very faithful day i was just walking home when i had an alert to my greatest surprise betting platform and sporting code that i never use or applied for deducted my money GTB hmmmm make una take time. Tomorrow traditional bank’s will be fighting fintech services.
