Adedoyin Gabriel, a graphic designer and part-time medical doctor, has been left depressed after robbers in Abuja, the nation’s capital, stole his essential means of livelihood on Sunday.

Adedoyin lamented that the uncertain realities of the medical practice in Nigeria pushed him to graphic designing and coding. However, his car containing a laptop, tablet and other valuable work tools was stolen where he briefly parked it at Utako Market in Abuja.

The stolen car with the plate number BWR-285TT, is a red Toyota Corolla 04, which was bought “barely a year ago to make movement inside Abuja easy” for him.

Adedoyin expressed his pain on Twitter about the loss, saying: “Nigeria, you broke me.

“At around 1pm yesterday [Sunday], I came out of the market to realise that my world has been reduced to an empty space.

“My small Toyota Corolla 04, in which I had my laptop, tablet and several personal effects, had disappeared.”

The University of Ilorin graduate stressed the dignity of labour while citing himself as an example of hard work.

“I’m a young Nigerian Hustler; my friends will testify to this. I wasn’t born into wealth. I’m working tooth and nail, knowing that the hope of my family lies on my shoulders.

“I’m a young medical-doctor-turned-graphic-designer and an IELTS Tutor who is currently coding his night away. So, you can understand how I felt when I realised that I’m back to ground zero.”

Wondering how long it would be for him to recover from the loss, he said: “My laptop contained years of work; that car barely a year old made movement inside Abuja easy for someone who came into this town barely a year ago.

“The tablet represented tonnes of study materials. Literally, a sudden break has been applied on my several hustle fronts. How does one bounce back seamlessly from this?”

To him, the involvement of youth in fraud, robbery and other crimes equates them to the corrupt Nigerian public officeholders.

He advised young people “who have chosen the path of defrauding, stealing, robbery, kidnapping etc, as a means of surviving these hard times, to kindly remember that times are hard for all of us”.

“The fact that some of us haven’t chosen that path too doesn’t mean we are better off. If you must cause anyone pain, why not cause our common enemies this pain you cause your brothers and sisters who are in the struggle with you?” he said.

“I’m just a young Nigerian who is thoroughly hardworking, adding multiple things to medicine to survive. You’re my brother in this pain and struggle, but you have caused me so much pain.

“I guess you’re no better than the same leaders who have made you this way.”

Adedoyin told FIJ he has since reported the case to the Police in Abuja but did not receiv any assurance on the recovery of his properte.
