The family of Salome Adaidu, a 24-year-old corps member, brutally murdered by Timileyin Ajayi, a resident of Papalada in Nasarawa State, have called for justice and said that this is not the killer’s first murder.

FIJ saw separate interviews granted to the family between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The confessed killer was arrested in Nasarawa on Sunday.

Ajayi claimed that he and Adaidu were in a romantic relationship for a year but Esther Adaidu, the deceased’s older sister, found it unbelievable because the family had never heard of him until the corps member’s murder.

While revealing that Adaidu had a few months to complete the one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, Esther said even though Ajayi’s arrest may not bring back her sister, the law must be allowed to take its full course.

“We did not just lose a person in my home. We lost a sister. My mum lost a daughter. Justice must be served. He murdered my sister. He confirmed it to me when we picked him up from the police station and took him to the (police) Command. I just need the law to take its full course. That’s the least,” Esther told Channels TV.

“I have never seen him before until Sunday. In the video I saw on social media, he claimed he’s been dating her for the past one year. How is it possible that no one in the home knows you or your name? That is absurd. Things like that don’t happen in my family. Even for ordinary friends, we know,” Esther added.

Samson Adaji Adaidu, Salome’s uncle, equally reiterated the family’s stance on the need for justice to be served.

According to the uncle, Ajayi did not just kill his niece but he butchered her, cutting her into over 50 pieces.

“We discovered this through the police and we are expecting justice. He has succeeded in destroying our daughter. He did not just kill but butchered her. He cut her up into more than 50 pieces. When you look at the whole thing, he was preparing that body for consumption,” said the uncle.

“He cut all these things [the body] and left them in about six polythene bags. When we went to his room, we discovered that this is not the first time he will be doing this. He is a professional in this.

“All those kinds of knives are in his room that he used to cut and arrange… He has a basin. There is evidence that this is not the first person he has destroyed.

“He is known to be a fraudster. He has deceived many churches to collect their money and run away. They call him a gospel singer, but he’s a fraudster. He has duped so many people. I suspect him to be a human parts trafficker. With the way he cut and cleaned the body, it showed that it was meant for consumption.”

In the video clip reviewed by FIJ, Ajayi is shown admitting to the crime. The murderer said he did not regret his crime.

He said, “I caught her cheating on me. I brought it to her awareness that she was cheating, but she refused to accept until I showed her the chats and showed her what she did before she admitted it. And she said she was sorry it was not going to happen again.

“I asked her to go to the bathroom, and she started some things. I could not take it lightly. I went to the room and took the knife from the restroom. I held her neck and did what I had to do. When she died, nothing really happened. I only took some part of the knife. I was not caught [by the police]. I surrendered myself.”

Meanwhile, residents of Papalada have expressed shock and fear over Ajayi’s action, especially the fact that a murderer could be in their midst.

While being interviewed by News Central TV, Samson Omale, Ajayi’s neighbour, said the suspect was always seen with different ladies. Omale said that the neighbours found Ajayi’s behaviour to be unusual.

“The guy met me in this community. Anytime you see the guy, we normally see him with girls. Different girls every day. We have never seen him with young men. He [would] normally hang around with different babes every day,” Omale disclosed.

“It was after the news of this incident broke out that people started connecting that this could be why he is always seen with girls. I don’t know his job or what he does. It was after this incident that people were showing me pictures of him on the Internet that he is a gospel singer. He always dressed like someone who is abnormal,” he added.

Adaidu’s killing joins a concerning list of Nigerian women violently murdered by men who claimed to be close to them.
