Dana Air has refused to refund N212,000 to Yusuf Balogun, a United Kingdom-based Nigerian whose flight was rescheduled in April 2023.
Balogun had bought four flight tickets for a Lagos-Abuja round trip for himself, his brother, aunt and uncle. On Saturday, April 15, 2023, he flew to Abuja with his relatives, expecting to return to Lagos the following day.
He arrived at the Abuja airport hours before his flight was expected to take off. While there, he was informed that his flight, which was supposed to take off at 12:10 noon, had been rescheduled for 6 pm.
“No notice was given until we arrived at the airport. A flight that was supposed to take off around 12 was rescheduled for 6 pm. That could not work for me. I explained this to some of the airline staff members at the airport,” Balogun told FIJ.

“It was also around that time that my uncle began feeling feverish and it seemed he was falling ill. I needed to take him to his doctor in Lagos for medical consultation. There was no way I could wait till 6 pm.”
He added that a staff member of the airline told him the only thing they could do was refund him. He filled out a form and was assured he would receive his refund in 30 days.
“I had to spend N500,000 booking tickets at Air Peace because of my uncle’s ill health. Dana Air has not refunded me since then. I forgot about it, but my friend reminded me,” he told FIJ.
FIJ emailed Dana Air on Monday, but they didn’t respond until Tuesday. In the airline’s response to FIJ’s email, they asked for Balogun’s mobile number, a copy of his ticket and his ID card.
Balogun sent the details the airline requested, but they have yet to refund him or respond to his email.

Me too oooooo. Dana Air owes me about 144k ooo. No refund till now. I have my tickets. I wrote mail and text on WhatsApp and still nothing.
Dana has been owing me, my wife and friend our money since cancellation of our flight due their suspension since April 2024. No refund to us since then. I believe this is happening because Nigeria government is not protecting the interests of their citizens.
Danaair is owing me, my wife and my friend since April that they suspended their airline. Nigeria government need to defend the citizens.
