Abdullahi Ayuba, a POS operator residing in the Mile 12 area of Lagos, has lamented the indiscriminate deductions OPay, a digital bank, has continued to make on his account to recover an N83,140 he does not owe.

Ayuba told FIJ that trouble started when he transferred N83,140 from his OPay account to his Fairmoney account on June 24.

“That day, the transfer I made from OPay impacted my Fairmoney account successfully,” Ayuba said on Monday.

“Unknown to me, however, the same amount that was already sitting in my Fairmoney account still got reversed to OPay on July 25. They eventually told me it was a system glitch that led to this.

“This then meant that the transfer, despite being successfully transferred to Fairmoney, still got reversed to OPay.

“After the incident, OPay sent an instruction to Fairmoney to place a restriction on all the funds I had with them (Fairmoney). I was again then sent another instruction to re-transfer the funds manually to my Fairmoney account so that the restriction that was placed could be lifted, and I promptly did so on July 5.

“Since then, however, OPay has continued to make indiscriminate deductions from my (OPay) account. Presently, a little over N18,000 has been deducted from my account. Over money I did not owe and an anomaly that was not of my doing?”

Ayuba said he had since visited the physical offices of both OPay and Fairmoney on the issue, but the issue remained unresolved.

“I have been going to the offices of both OPay and Fairmoney for almost two months now, but both of them have been tossing me around without helping me resolve the issue,” said Ayuba.

“OPay is still deducting my money as we speak. I expect Fairmoney to have also communicated with OPay that the N83,140 has again been manually resent to it.”

FIJ sent emails to the customer complaint units of both OPay and Fairmoney for their reactions to the issue on Monday morning.

Neither Fairmoney nor OPay had responded at press time.

If they are taking your money, why not borrow money from them and abandon the account with paying back, then deactivate the Opay account. I hate nonsense.
