Rotimi Salami, a Lagos resident who renders courier services, has narrated how OPay, a fintech mobile money operating company, placed an unwarranted restriction on his account after he deposited an N80,000 sum into it.
While speaking with FIJ on Friday, Salami said he made the N80,000 deposit on March 15.
“I deposited N80,000 into my OPay account on March 15, 2025, with the hope of making use of it later in the month,” Salami said.
“On the day I eventually decided to make use of the fund, however, I observed that my account had been placed on restriction by the digital platform and all the efforts I subsequently made to get it lifted proved abortive.

“When I continued to agitate for my N80,000 to be released to me, I was later informed that the particular sum was restricted due to a N195,600 inflow I had received from a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) customer, being payment for a successful DHL shipment service I had rendered for him on March 10.
“As a matter of fact, the recipient of the package had also confirmed receipt the moment it was sent.
“I subsequently contacted the client to find out why he had requested for a restriction to be placed on the N80,000 in my account but he denied taking any action that suggested such.”
Salami told FIJ that, at OPay’s request, he also provided the financial institution with evidence of the courier service he had rendered to the client for the N195,600 payment, but the restriction was still not lifted.

“Despite providing OPay with more than necessary evidence for the transaction in question, my account has remained restricted with OPay choosing to be adamant in not letting me have access to my money,” Salami said.
“And this is after the client in question had also confirmed that he had never raised any issue concerning the transaction or the service I rendered.”
FIJ sent an email to OPay’s client support desk for a reaction to Salami’s complaint on Wednesday, but it had not been responded to at press time.
