Magnus Adakole (not real name), a Nigerian residing in the United Kingdom, has narrated how OPay placed his account on restriction after he made a N952,363 transfer to it from his other accounts.

Adakole, who is a scholar, told FIJ that OPay placed the restriction on his account on July 2.

“Opay restricted my account on July 2 because I moved N952,363 into it from my GTB and Access Bank accounts,” Adakole said.

“What actually motivated me into emptying my other accounts and putting everything in my OPay was the fact that customers get to make their first three transfers to other banks for free from their OPay accounts.

“The next thing I saw was that OPay termed my funds abnormal and placed a freeze on my account.

“Since then, I have not been able to have access to my money. OPay restricted me from such.”

Adakole told FIJ that he had sent several emails to the financial institution to have the restriction lifted but had not been successful.

“Presently, OPay is asking me to provide CAC and business documents when all I have with them is just a savings account. Isn’t that laughable?” Adakole said.

“I have also asked them to let me close the account and allow me to have access to my money, but they would not respond to me. Who does that? My money?”

FIJ sent an email to OPay’s customer support unit for a reaction to the allegation on Friday morning, but it had not been responded to at press time.

Opay is thief, they are not competent financial institution, restricting customer account anyhow and gone free without being penalties, it means Nigeria is not a country, I bet you just try that with me , u will not function again in Nigeria.

I suggest you take legal action against them. I am currently up against them on my clients account restriction.
Their excuses is flimsy.

This is surprising to me, and also scared me because I have been busy marketing Opay to all my friends and business associate, and as well to people around the community where I lived, to the extend of on-boarding over 140 people, and at the same time assigning Opay ATM card to them as a merchant, and assisting them on resolving any challenge they encountered based on one or two account or transactional issues, and so good so far, all have been successful, with more credit to Opay, and it management.

My fear now is, if this allegation is true, then it won’t speak well about Opay, it will be advisable for Opay management to try as much as possible to look into this matter and resolve it for credibility sake.

As for me, so good so far, Opay service has been awesome, alongside their various incentives attached to their services. I hope they keep up with it for the best, and not on the contrary.

As for the allegation, if it’s true, then in my case, I would have taken a legal step to seek solution to resolving the issue if they persist to resolve it peacefully upon contacting them as claimed, because the stated amount involved is huge amount, and is not worth joking with in this hard time.

I hope Opay will do the needful in resolving it if it is true as alleged.

My account was also locked 🔐 , without any reason, I was asked to upload my nin and NEPA bill which I did yet they refused to open it, .. the commercial bank is stealing our money and decided to move to online banking they still the same trouble. I think is high time we start saving money under the bed..

Oh dear, I’m going through same issue. My account was frozen on suspicion of money laundering.
I was at their allen office today and I was told to send screenshots of the transactions from my other savings account plus utility bill and also purpose of transactions.

Very useless microfinance bank I must say.

Opay is really worst, opay restricted my account for the past 1 year and I have alots of money there still they don’t lift the restriction , they kept saying rubbish , so I finally went to High Court to report them which the court submitted the order to opay to lift the restriction but still the same uptill now…
