Mayowa Abraham, a student of the Institute of Maritime Academy, has narrated how Osmic Gadgets, a phone store, refused to replace a defective product he bought or refund him.

Abraham said that he purchased an iPhone XR Chip Unlock for N130,000 from the company on November 21 but the product failed to function as expected.

“I purchased an iPhone XR Chip Unlock from Osmic Gadgets in Ikeja on November 21. The phone was worth N130,000 and I paid for it fully,” he said.

“On getting to my house, I realised that the phone was misbehaving and won’t function properly. At some point, it even stopped working.”

Abraham stated that he returned to Osmic Gadgets to complain about the defective phone but he was turned away.

“Till now, they have refused to sort the case. I just want my refund or a new phone,” he said.

When FIJ called Ben David, the owner of the phone store, he denied refusing to replace Abraham’s defective phone.

“The phone he bought is a chip unlock phone, which can only work with a chip. But right now, chips are no longer working on phones and that is why the phone was malfunctioning,” David told FIJ.

“I didn’t refuse him a refund either. I had once proposed the offer but he rejected it. However, I will be giving him another phone.”

Abraham stated that after FIJ’s call, David said he would only replace the product if he paid an extra N20,000.

“David demanded that I add N20,000 to the initial N130,000. He is offering me the same phone; he is only changing the product.

“His excuse for demanding the extra charge is that the initial phone I bought was chip unlock but the new one is fully locked.

“What Osmic Gadgets is doing to me is not fair. It’s been over a week since I have been visiting their store and I have spent lots of money, especially on transportation.”
