Patients at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Owerri, the Imo State Capital, have assaulted nurses after lamenting lack of medical attention.

On condition of anonymity, a source who works in the hospital, told FIJ that the patients had been at the hospital since morning on Monday, seeking to be attended to by doctors but to no avail.

“One patient said she paid for consultancy on Wednesday, but she was asked to come on Monday, when she came today, she paid again, but because of the sit-at-home order, no doctor is around,” the source told FIJ.

“Consultancy fee only lasts for 24 hours, so you cannot use it the following day. Many of them got angry and started attacking the nurses. They (nurses) have run inside and closed the door.”

A sit-at-home order has been in effect in the southeast since August 2021, and is observed willingly and forcibly every Monday as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a separatist group, demands the release of Nnamdi Kanu, its leader, who is standing trial for treason.
