About 15 truckloads of Nigerian soldiers have laid siege to Konshinsha Local Government Area of Benue State, following the killing of two soldiers by marauding bandits.

A witness told FIJ that the raid, on Wednesday, of troops of Operation Whirl Stroke on Bonta community in Konshinsha on air surveillance resulted in the death of “many” residents.

“Konshisha Local Government in Benue is under vengeful siege by the military in retaliation for the killing of soldiers,” one resident told FIJ. “Houses, women and children are displaced. Communities are being burnt as we speak.”

FIJ received on-the-ground pictures of burnt houses, farms and other vandals caused the military men.

It was gathered that the two soldiers killed were among troops deployed to the troubled communities to maintain peace. They were ambushed by notorious bandits known as ‘Bonta Boys’.

Samuel Ortom, the Benue State Governor, had cautioned the people of the state against launching an attack on security operatives.

He said this while briefing journalists after an expanded Security Council meeting with stakeholders from the troubled Konshisha and Oju local government areas of the state.
