Muaz Magaji, a former commissioner for works in Kano State, was arrested by men believed to be officers of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Abuja, after chasing him into an accident in the Utako area of the city.
FIJ learned that Magaji was chased by the police immediately after leaving the premises of Trust TV, where he had gone for a live television interview.
“My father was arrested yesterday, though I don’t have the exact time,” said Ahmed Muaz, Magaji’s son, in a chat with FIJ. “The last time I spoke with him, he was on his way to Trust TV for an interview, and that was around 7pm in the evening.”

“After he came back from his trip to Turkey, he told us the SCIID called him that they needed to see him. He tried getting an injunction because of his activeness in the political space, and for him to always protect himself from such harassments. However, the injunction had not come when they got to him.”
Magaji was apprehended after his Honda car veered off the road and hit a street light pole.
On January 17, Kano police had invited Magaji to answer questions regarding a petition against him, but he sent his lawyers to represent him.

He was sacked as a commissioner by Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano State Governor, after going to his Facebook page to celebrate the death of Abba Kyari, former Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, who died from Covid-19 complications in 2020.
Since leaving the government, Magaji has been a constant critic of the governor, with emphasis on his leadership style.
“Since he made the decision to contest for the Office of the Governor of Kano State, he has automatically become an opposition to Ganduje,” said Ahmed.
“And based on their previous history, they’ve not always been on good terms, especially since the period he stopped being a member of his (Ganduje’s) cabinet.”

While claiming that the location of Magaji was unknown, Ahmed said the family contacted the lawyers working on the case. However, FIJ learned that Magaji was transported from Abuja to Kano by the police on an Azman flight yesterday.
