Adegbite Adeshina, a cocktail store owner in Lagos, has accused police officers attached to Ijede Police Station, Ikorodu, of assaulting him and his apprentices on Friday.

Adeshina said the officers invaded Oke Eletu, where his store is located, at about 9:30 pm and began to harass passers-by, arrest people, and shoot in the air.

Fearing that they might attack those still in their stores, Adeshina instructed his apprentices to pack up and go home. But that was when his nightmare began.

“As we were taking our equipment inside the store, the police officers approached and started assaulting us. They punched me several times and beat my friend and my apprentices with a machete,” Adeshina said.

“The weight of the punches were so strong and consistent that I had to run away, leaving my friend and apprentices who were still being beaten with a machete.”

Adeshina later learnt that the police officers had broken his glass window and damaged his public address system and charger.

On Saturday morning, Adeshina headed to the police station to bail his apprentices and his friend.

“After being delayed at the station, I bailed them out of custody with N30,000,” he said.

When FIJ called CSP Sunday Oluwadare, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ijede Police Station, he sounded angry and asked that our reporter visit the station or reach out to CSP Adekune Ajisebutu, the Lagos police spokesperson.
