Abiodun Alabi, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, and the Force Disciplinary Council (FDC) have transferred all officers attached to the Ajah police division.

Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos State police public relations officer, disclosed this in response to a Punch report that exposed police officers from the division caught drinking on the job.

“In addition, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, fdc, has already effected the transfer out of ALL personnel of the division, with replacement from other divisions. This would fully materialize in a couple of days,” Hundeyin tweeted on Monday.

“While appreciating @MobilePunch for the exposé, we encourage more Lagos residents to, as usual, say something whenever they see something, as this would translate to a better policing experience for all. Remember, security is everyone’s business.”

Residents and business owners in the area had said that the rising extrajudicial killings in the area might be due to the abuse of alcohol by the officers, according to the Punch.

They also noted that because the majority of the officers in the division had worked there for long (10-15 years) and refused to be transferred, they were like lords.

Officers of the Ajah division have been under the spotlight for the extrajudicial killing of Gafaru Buraimoh, 31, and Bolanle Raheem, 41.

Buraimoh was going to buy fuel when he was shot on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, by one Inspector Imeh Johnson. Two weeks and five days later, on Christmas day, Raheem was shot by Drambi Vandi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, while returning from church with her family.

Both officers were attached to Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah.

Hundeyin revealed that the shanties surrounding the police station had been demolished by Adolf Ogwu, the new Divisional Police Officer, and that the transfer and replacement of all officers from the division would be completed within a few days.
