Vandals have stolen underground cables leaving some parts of the Presidential Villa and some other parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, without power.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed the incident on Friday. According to the TCN, the vandalised cables supply the major electricity output to the Central Area Transmission Substation in Katampe.
Areas such as Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Asokoro and others were also affected.

“Consequently, areas experiencing power outages include Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Life Camp, Asokoro, Utako, Mabushi, and parts of Presidential Villa,” the first statement shared by the TCN reads in part.
However, in a now-reshared statement, the TCN listed the affected areas only as “Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Life Camp, Asokoro, Utako and Mabushi.”
The transmission company said that vandals stole the underground cables around Millennium Park, disrupting over 60 per cent of the power supply in the city.
In 2024, there were at least five reported cases of major electrical vandalism in Nigeria. In December, the TCN announced that its 330kV Shiroro-Katampe transmission line was vandalised.
Also, in November, vandals stole one-third of the electrical conductor of the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV line in Bayelsa. They stole about one-third of the conductor, affecting towers 29 to 31.
