Edesiri Ogbariemu, a resident of Delta State, has accused Faustina Tejiri, a thrift savings collector in Warri, of cutting ties with him after refusing to refund his N255,000 since May.
Ogbariemu told FIJ that he had called her several times and asked her to return his money after their 10-member savings group disbanded because she failed to pay them. But she stopped communicating with him instead.
The Delta resident said he started saving N51,000 monthly with Tejiri between December 2023 and April 2024. A friend introduced him to her. According to Ogbariemu, Tejiri explained that he and some others would be part of a group where they contributed monthly, except in the month they were scheduled to receive a payout.
“I agreed after she explained how it worked, and I contributed N51,000 monthly without fail until April 2024, when some people in the group raised the alarm that they had not received their money,” Ogbariemu told FIJ.

He said that as complaints continued, he decided it was unwise to save for another month. So, he requested a refund, but that was when the problem with Tejiri began.

Ogbariemu said that when he asked for his money, Tejiri could not produce it. She offered to pay him in instalments every week, which he refused.

“I told her to repay me monthly after the group was disbanded, and she agreed. But she hasn’t paid a dime. I have continued to request my money, but she seems unwilling to return it,” he said.
FIJ called Tejiri, but her line did not connect. She had not responded to FIJ’s text message at press time.
