For the second time in three days, an explosion on the Dansadau-Gusau Road in Zamfara State has claimed lives, FIJ has gathered. The latest incident occurred on Wednesday morning near Mai Lamba in Maru Local Government Area.

Reports vary on the death toll. Premium Times reported at least 12 fatalities, while TVC and Channels Television said six people died and eight others were injured.

Mohammed Dalijan, Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, confirmed the explosion to TVC News, saying that one person died and three others sustained injuries.

FIJ gathered that the explosion destroyed a Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle travelling from Dansadau to Gusau.

This is the second explosive attack in the region within a week. On Sunday, bandits detonated a bomb at Dansadau Emirate in the same local government of Zamfara, killing one person and destroying a commercial vehicle.

Residents suspect that the terrorists are using explosives to disrupt security reinforcements during raids and destabilise the area. Maru LGA has long been an epicentre of banditry in Zamfara.

Meanwhile, calls made to the state police spokesperson on Wednesday afternoon were not answered. FIJ also sent him a text in an attempt to confirm the details of the explosion. The spokesperson had not responded at press time.
