Samuel Obochi, a Kaduna-based civil servant, has detailed how First City Monument Bank (FCMB) refused to refund his N33,000 after he was debited twice for an online transaction.
Obochi said he made an online transaction of N33,000 via Remita on January 13 but was debited N66,000 in total.
He said he immediately contacted Remita but was asked to visit his bank as they wouldn’t process a single payment twice.
“I met the bank officials here in Kaduna but they kept telling me they were working on it. I even called the head office in Lagos, but I was asked to visit my office to be sure that the money was only debited once,” he told FIJ.
“I went to my office and it was shown that the money was only deducted once. I even wrote a letter in April, which was acknowledged, but the bank gave no response to it nor refunded my money.”
Obochi said he wrote to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on July 4, complaining to them about the deduction.
“I wrote a letter to the CBN, attaching all the reference numbers of the bank investigations where they claimed my transaction was successful without a refund.

“On July 8, after six months of trying to get a refund, one of the bank officials from FCMB called to say that they had confirmed that the money was debited and I would get a refund in 72 hours.
“It’s over 72 hours already, and till now, I haven’t got a refund, and neither have I heard anything from them.”
FIJ sent emails to FCMB but they were yet to be responded to at press time.
