Ufa Dania, a Miss Universe Nigeria finalist, has voiced concerns when she did not receive a R8,800 donation that was raised on her behalf by Reginald Mathule Kanyane, a South African who claimed to be one of her fans.

Dania said Kanyane launched the fundraising campaign in 2024 so she could spend the total amount realised from donations on visiting South Africa after she became a fan favourite in the country.

In the end, however, only R8,800 was raised out of the R100,000 she needed for the visit.

The South African rand is N85.10. R8,800 is N748,880.

“A man by the name of Reggie contacted me after the pageantry, talking about raising funds to get me to South Africa, and I agreed to do it. He assured me the money wouldn’t just disappear and that it would actually be used to get me to South Africa,” Dania revealed in a TikTok video.

Dania later suggested that the R8,800 be donated to her foundation since the sum would not be enough for her trip to South Africa.

In response, Kanyane told her he would need to consult with the donors before proceeding with her suggestion.

The South African then went on to send Dania the following WhatsApp messages:

“Best believe I will send you what’s due to you.

“l am not one who steals or moves with people’s money at all. Now I am operating on a high level of stress, but it should be done in two weeks. What we were doing was covered in many news platforms and I wouldn’t dare paint my image negative with that.”

After several weeks of not getting any feedback from Kanyane, Dania reached out to him to enquire about the status of her suggestion.

During the conversation, Kanyane asked for her bank details to enable him to facilitate the transfer and obtain a bank statement to verify her account ownership.

“I don’t know where the money is, I don’t have access to it. I just want to ensure that he actually refunds the people who donated since the cause was to get me to South Africa,” said Dania.

“I’m not personally talking to him because I feel like the back and forth is too much.”

Dania added that the South African refused to respond to her when she requested his full name and address. She also has not heard from him since mid-February.
