Uniformed military officers invaded the headquarters of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IE) in Alausa, Lagos, on Thursday morning and assaulted staff after their power supply was disconnected.

FIJ gathered that the officers, who were from the Sam Ethan Air Force Base in Ikeja, stormed the power distribution company’s office and physically assaulted staff over the disconnection.

They also prevented anyone from entering or leaving the premises while attacking the employees.

“Military officers from the Air Force Base came to our office this morning and assaulted our staff because power supply to their base was disconnected,” an Ikeja Electric staff member told FIJ.

“They seized the phones of employees in the office and even locked some of them in.

“They blocked the road and prevented other people from accessing the office.”

She said that after the military officers had dealt with the staff to their satisfaction, they left with company vehicles belonging to the power distribution firm.

The officers also attacked staff at another Ikeja Electric office on Ago Palace Way, Okota, Isolo.

There, the employees were forced to kneel as the officers assaulted them.

Media reports state that the power supply to the Air Force Base was disconnected as it was already running into millions of naira in debt with the military base promising to pay N60 million monthly in exchange for a daily electricity supply of 10 to 12 hours.
