A fool’s mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to his soul. (Proverbs 18:7)

Wild and untamed, unbridled and uncultured,
His lips run amok like a herd of pigs possessed by demons.
He doesn’t know when to stop,
As his mouth gushes folly like a running tap with no lid.

Show me two men,
And the stance of the wise one’ll expose the fool’s status.
He’s a dog without a leash, a stray cat with no owner.
Restraint is an alien word to him,
So his mouth roams the streets of silly speech.

The sharp-edged knife of his lips cuts his friends deeply.
Even his foes are not immune to his idiocy.
You can see the shape of his myopia,
And the narrowness of his thoughts in the words that escape from his voice box.

A fool is a looming disaster,
And his words are a ticking time bomb that plot the death of dreamers and dig the graves of goal-getters.
And then, boom! The timer goes off!

The world knows he’s a broken mirror,
But he thinks he’s the next best thing after ‘Agege bread’.
To complete his ruin, he usurps the tiny power he thinks he has.
He displays his foolishness on a global theatre,
Then he giggles and laughs.

He expects his audience to applaud him,
But no one joins in his show of shame.
Amid blaring boos and jeers, he steps down from the one-minute fame.
He giggles and laughs again,
But the loud jibes drowns his retreating laugh.

A trained parrot is better than a schooled fool,
For it knows when to shut its beak.
But no matter how learned a fool might seem,
His folly is like smoke that cannot be covered.
