A fatal accident involving three Chinese was caused by trigger-happy police early on Sunday morning, an eyewitness has said.

Few minutes past 12 midnight, the Mercedes Benz car driven by one of the Chinese ran into a truck driver at China Town on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway after the police shot into the air in an attempt to arrest the overspeeding truck driver.

An eyewitness who simply identified himself as Okusaga confirmed this accident to FIJ, saying: “The police were trying to stop the truck at full speed while they themselves (police) were driving one-way on that road”.

“They shot at them and the Mercedes car behind ran into the truck. Immediately, the policemen ran away.”

Although none of the victims was confirmed dead at the scene, one of them was badly injured in the eye. They have all been rushed to the hospital.

CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, couldn’t immediately give details of the accident but promised to get back to our reporter.
