A video of Christian bishops hurriedly exiting the Shehu Musa Yar’ Adua Centre, Abuja, after Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, unveiled Kashim Shettima as his running mate on Wednesday, has surfaced online.

In the video recorded by The WHISTLER, the bishops, whose identities have been a subject of debate since pictures of them at the event became public, bend their heads and turn away from cameras while refusing to grant press interviews. One raises a bag to cover his face and another makes a violent attempt on a reporter’s phone.

One of the said clergymen, who identifies himself as Prince, however, responds to a reporter’s question on where he came from.

He says, “We have said it before; we believe in peace and unity of Nigeria.”

Prince, who claims to be a religious leader, says it is not a crime for two Muslims to run for president and deputy.

Meanwhile, FIJ learnt that his full name is Prince Ugo Ugokwe, a member of the APC who aspired to become the party’s deputy youth leader in the southeast.

On the mystery surrounding the identities of the supposed clerics, Rev. Fr. Patrick Alumuku, the spokesman of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Abuja, has said the bishops who appeared in the photos circulating online were not the church’s representatives.

Alumuku said that Tinubu’s campaign team hired fake bishops to attend the event.

“We have seen the photos circulating online. They are not Catholic bishops. The Catholic Church did not send any representation to the event held today by Bola Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima,” he said.

“If you look at the manner in which the imposters dressed and conducted themselves, you will see they are not Catholic Church officials.”

FIJ earlier reported how one of the ‘bishops’ confessed to being paid to appear at the venue.
