The management of the University of Ibadan has announced that the certificates of Medicine and Dentistry graduates who left the school in 2022 are now ready for collection.

The announcement came after FIJ’s story on how the unavailability of the certificates was preventing the affected graduates from advancing their careers.

“The attention of the University of Ibadan Management was drawn to an online report that went viral,” read a statement on UI’s official website by G. O. Saliu, Registrar and Secretary to Council.

“Management hereby states that it did not refuse to give the graduates of Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry their certificates but had technical issues in getting the certificates ready.

“Concerted efforts were made to redeem the situation while the management reached out to the licencing boards to plead on behalf of the graduates. Management is pleased to inform the affected graduates that the certificates are now ready for collection.

“Management assures its teeming graduates that the University of Ibadan would never impede their progress. Management appreciates the cooperation of the licencing board and the concern of all stakeholders.”

Sunday, Damilare, one of the affected graduates who had spoken to FIJ about how the delay impeded their progress, confirmed that the certificates were indeed ready.

A week ago, FIJ published a report detailing the experiences of these graduates who were stuck in limbo due to the delay of the university’s management in making their certificates available for collection.

All the graduates FIJ spoke with lamented professional stagnation, as they could not serve under the NYSC scheme, apply for and write professional exams, and secure employment after completing their one-year housemanship.

They had written letters to the university management several times, but their efforts proved abortive.
