Umo Bassey Eno of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared winner of the governorship election held in Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.
Professor Emmanuel Adigio, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer for the state, announced on Sunday that Eno polled 354,348 votes to defeat his challengers in the race.
According to INEC, Senator Bassey Akpan of the Young Peoples Party (PDP) came second in the contest with 136,262.
The returning officer, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Nigerian Maritime University, Delta, stated that the winner won in 29 of the 31 local government areas in the state.
Akanimo Udofia of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 129,602 and Akpan Udo Edehe of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) received 12,509 votes.
