The Federal Government has discontinued the money laundering lawsuit filed against Tigran Gambaryan and Binance Holdings Limited, a cryptocurrency exchange company.

The withdrawal happened at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, according to TheCable.

R.U. Adaba, a lawyer representing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), told Justice Emeka Nwite that the decision to terminate the case was informed by the fact that Gambaryan was an employee who was not involved in the yet-to-be-proven $35 million crimes perpetrated by the company.

On June 14, FIJ reported that the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) had discontinued tax evasion charges filed against Gambaryan and his employer.

Gambaryan, Binance’s US head of financial crime compliance, and Nadeem Anjarwalla, Binance’s regional manager for Africa, were first detained at the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) after their visit to Nigeria in February.

Surprisingly, Anjarwalla escaped from the NSA custody on March 22 and he was said to have been tracked to Kenya, from where Nigeria has failed to extradite him despite reported claims to that effect.

Upon his arraignment alongside Binance in April, the court remanded Gambaryan at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

With both Gambaryan and Anjarwalla out of the case, the FIRS and the EFCC are left with Binance.
