A bus conveying students has tumbled in the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), leaving casualties.
A student who spoke with FIJ over the phone said that the crash happened close to the school gate on Thursday.
“It happened very close to the school gate,” she said. “About 11 people were on the bus, but I cannot say exactly the number of people involved in the crash.”

A video of the crash obtained by FIJ showed the vehicle in an upside-down position by the roadside beside the school’s zoo. A passenger lay almost lifeless, and two other passengers, looking injured, struggled to regain balance. Some students have speculated that the unconscious person has died.
“From a video I’ve seen, someone was lying unconscious on the ground. This is not enough to say there was a fatality. I heard that they have all been taken away for medical care.”

In a now-deleted post on X, the Campus Union of Journalists (UCJ), said nobody had been confirmed dead yet, imploring the public to avoid a hasty conclusion.
The university management, hours after this story was published, confirmed the death of one of the passengers. Nine other people in the bus got some injuries and were being treated at the school’s health centre.
